Futurama Returns to Comic-Con Ahead of Season 14

By Voice Over News Staff. Published on: July 14, 2026

More than 25 years after its television debut, Futurama continues to prove why it remains one of animation’s most enduring science fiction comedies. This month, the series returns to San Diego Comic-Con with one of the convention’s most anticipated animation panels, giving fans an early look at Season 14 before its August premiere.

Hulu’s presentation is expected to reunite much of the show’s legendary voice cast, including Billy West, John DiMaggio, Katey Sagal, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, Maurice LaMarche, David Herman, and executive producer David X. Cohen. Along with previewing the new season, the panel will celebrate the remarkable longevity of a cast that has remained largely intact despite multiple cancellations, revivals, and changing streaming platforms.

For voice acting fans, the event is another reminder that Futurama has become one of animation’s greatest ensemble performances, where each actor brings multiple memorable characters to life.

A Cast That Has Stayed Together for Decades

Few animated series can match Futurama when it comes to continuity.

Since the show premiered in 1999, many of its principal performers have remained with the series through every revival. That consistency has allowed audiences to reconnect with familiar voices regardless of where the show has aired, helping preserve the chemistry that made the original series so successful.

Billy West continues to anchor the show with one of animation’s most impressive collections of characters, voicing Fry, Professor Farnsworth, Dr. Zoidberg, Zapp Brannigan, and numerous supporting roles. His remarkable vocal range has become one of the defining elements of the series.

John DiMaggio returns as the unforgettable Bender Bending Rodríguez, whose sarcastic humor and larger-than-life personality have made him one of television’s most recognizable animated characters.

Katey Sagal once again voices Leela, bringing emotional depth and leadership to the Planet Express crew, while Lauren Tom continues portraying Amy Wong alongside several additional supporting characters.

Together, the returning cast provides a level of familiarity that few long-running animated series can match.

Veteran Voice Actors Continue to Shape the Series

One reason Futurama has remained consistently strong is its extraordinary supporting cast.

Phil LaMarr has voiced Hermes Conrad throughout the series while contributing numerous additional characters whenever needed. Maurice LaMarche remains one of the show’s vocal cornerstones through his performances as Kif Kroker, Morbo, Calculon, and other memorable personalities.

David Herman continues demonstrating remarkable versatility by portraying Scruffy, Mayor Poopenmeyer, and dozens of recurring characters across the show’s expansive universe.

Combined with Billy West’s ability to perform multiple leads simultaneously, the cast has built one of animation’s deepest vocal ensembles. Rather than relying on celebrity guest stars for every new character, Futurama frequently allows its experienced performers to create entirely new personalities throughout each season.

That flexibility has helped maintain the show’s distinctive style while giving voice actors opportunities to showcase an extraordinary range of performances.

Looking Ahead to Season 14

Although Hulu has kept many story details under wraps, Comic-Con is expected to provide fans with an early preview of the upcoming season before it premieres on August 3.

The panel will likely feature exclusive footage, behind-the-scenes discussions, and conversations about recording new episodes after the series’ latest revival.

For longtime viewers, one of the most interesting aspects will be hearing how the cast continues approaching characters they first performed more than two decades ago.

Animation allows performers to revisit roles over much longer periods than most live-action productions, but maintaining those characters requires careful balance. Actors must preserve the voices audiences recognize while allowing subtle emotional growth as the series evolves.

That challenge has become one of Futurama‘s greatest strengths. Despite years between some seasons, the Planet Express crew continues to feel immediately familiar whenever they return.

Why Futurama Remains a Comic-Con Favorite

Futurama has always enjoyed a special relationship with Comic-Con audiences.

Its blend of science fiction, comedy, and intelligent storytelling naturally appeals to convention fans, while the cast’s enthusiasm during live panels has made previous Comic-Con appearances memorable highlights.

Unlike many promotional events that focus exclusively on upcoming episodes, Futurama panels often become celebrations of voice acting itself. Fans regularly hear performers switch between multiple characters, explain how scenes are recorded, and share stories from decades of working together.

That behind-the-scenes perspective offers something unique. It reminds audiences that the show’s success depends not only on clever writing and imaginative animation, but also on a group of performers whose chemistry has remained remarkably consistent across every era of the series.

As San Diego Comic-Con approaches, the return of Futurama promises to be more than just another season preview. It is a celebration of one of television’s greatest voice casts, whose performances continue to keep Matt Groening’s futuristic world as entertaining today as it was when viewers first boarded the Planet Express ship more than a quarter-century ago.
